Caret Highlighting Misaligned When Typing in Web Browsers

Why the Text Caret Shifts in Chrome and Edge and How to Work Around It

Overview

Users of SuperNova Magnifier and SuperNova Magnifier & Speech may notice that when typing into search fields on websites—particularly in browsers such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge—the highlighting caret becomes misaligned. Instead of appearing directly over the text being typed, the caret may shift to the right, creating an offset effect.

This behaviour is a known issue with 25.01 that Dolphin is currently investigating.

What Causes the Caret Misalignment?

The issue occurs specifically within certain web browsers and affects how the caret is visually tracked while typing. It does not affect text entry itself, only the visual alignment of the caret.

SuperNova’s team is actively working on a long‑term fix.

Current Workarounds

Until the issue is resolved, users can rely on the following temporary solutions:

✔ Use Mozilla Firefox

Firefox does not exhibit the caret offset issue and provides a stable typing experience for SuperNova users.

✔ For Magnifier & Speech Users: Switch to the “Magnifier & Speech with Keyboard” Profile

This profile uses the Dolphin Cursor, which improves caret tracking in web browsers.

To switch profiles:

  1. Press ALT + F to open the File menu

  2. Select Profile

  3. Choose Magnifier & Speech with Keyboard from the dropdown list

This change can help restore correct caret alignment while typing.
