Dolphin Orpheus Errors After Resuming from Sleep Mode in SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader

How to resolve Orpheus startup errors caused by Windows hybrid sleep settings

Overview

Some SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader users may experience Dolphin Orpheus errors on startup after their PC resumes from Sleep or Standby mode.

This issue occurs because the Orpheus driver fails to recover correctly when Windows resumes from sleep, preventing the driver from initializing properly and causing error messages when SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader starts.

Symptoms

Users may encounter one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Dolphin Orpheus error messages after waking the computer from Sleep mode.
  • SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader Speech failing to start correctly.
  • Speech or screen reader functionality not working as expected following resume from standby.

Cause

The issue is related to the Orpheus driver not recovering properly after the system resumes from Sleep/Standby mode. In many cases, the problem is associated with Windows Hybrid Sleep settings.

Resolution

To prevent the issue from occurring, disable Hybrid Sleep in Windows Power Options.

Steps

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Select Power Options.
  3. Click Change plan settings for your active power plan.
  4. Select Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand Sleep.
  6. Expand Allow hybrid sleep.
  7. Set Hybrid Sleep to Off.
  8. Click Apply, then OK.
  9. Restart your computer if required.

Verification

After disabling Hybrid Sleep:

  1. Restart the PC.
  2. Put the system into Sleep mode.
  3. Wake the system and launch SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader.
  4. Confirm that the Orpheus error no longer appears.

Additional Information

If the issue persists after disabling Hybrid Sleep, ensure that Windows updates and the latest version of SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader are installed. If further assistance is required, contact your IT support team or Dolphin support.
