'Download failed' when attempting to download books from the RNIB Bookshare library within EasyReader

Some users may experience issues downloading books from the RNIB Bookshare library due to a recent library change made by the RNIB

Some users have reported issues downloading books from the RNIB Bookshare library. The RNIB has made changes to its library, resulting in issues downloading books through the EasyReader app. Our developers are aware of the issue and are actively working to resolve it as swiftly as possible. The fix for this issue will be included in the next EasyReader update.

We understand that this unexpected disruption can be quite frustrating. While we wait for a resolution, please see the workarounds below:

Workaround 1: Importing the book from the RNIB website

The file types you can import include DAISY, EPUB, Microsoft Word documents, HTML, and Plain Text files. For a complete list, please see Supported file formats.

There are various ways you can import files.

To import a file using the Share option (supported by Apple, Amazon, and Android devices):

  1. Open the App containing the file, for example, "Files", "Dropbox", or "OneDrive".
  2. Select the file and choose "Share" or comparable option within the app.
  3. Select "EasyReader".

To import a file using the EasyReader App Import option (supported by Amazon, Android, and Windows devices):

  1. From the "My Books" screen, select the "Import" button.
  2. Select the file.
  3. Select the "Open" button.

To import a file using the Drag method (supported by Apple iPad and Mac devices):

  1. Open the App containing the file, for example, "Files", "Dropbox", or "OneDrive".
  2. Drag the file to the My Books screen.

You can import a maximum of 10 files at any one time using EasyReader App. The import process copies, converts, and adds the file to the "My Books" screen. When the import process is complete, the file opens in the Reader screen.

To import more than 10 files requires an EasyReader Premium Subscription. EasyReader Premium offers unlimited imports and includes the ability to import accessible PDF files.

Workaround 2: Joining the iOS beta

If you are using an iOS device, you can join the beta program and download a beta for the next version of EasyReader (which includes the fix for this issue) using the following link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/oFGxAFUO
