SAM – Bad Image Errors on Startup in SuperNova 25.01
Why These Errors Appear and How to Work Around Them Until the Fix Arrives
Overview
Some users running SuperNova 25.01 may encounter SAM – Bad Image error messages when starting the software. These warnings are triggered by Windows Smart App Control (SAC), which is currently flagging two SuperNova drivers.
Although the messages may look concerning, they only affect specific braille display drivers. All other SuperNova features continue to work normally.
What Causes the SAM – Bad Image Errors?
Windows Smart App Control is incorrectly flagging the following SuperNova drivers:
-
Vbraille
-
TSISam
These drivers are used exclusively for Vbraille and TSI braille displays. If you do not use these displays, your SuperNova experience will remain fully functional despite the warnings.
Impact on SuperNova
-
Only Vbraille and TSI braille display functionality is affected
-
All other SuperNova features operate normally
-
The issue is temporary and already addressed in the next update
Workarounds You Can Use Now
1. Dismiss the Error
You can safely close the SAM – Bad Image message and continue using SuperNova. All non‑braille features will work as expected.
2. Disable Windows Smart App Control
If you rely on Vbraille or TSI braille displays, disabling Smart App Control will prevent the drivers from being blocked. (Users should only do this if they are comfortable adjusting Windows security settings.)
Fix Coming in the Next Update
The affected drivers have now been code‑signed and corrected. The fix will be included in the next SuperNova update.
