How to change the shortcut key to launch SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader

You may find the File Explorer shortcut keys to launch SuperNova, Dolphin ScreenReader, and the product’s Remote Support conflicting with keyboard commands you wish to use in applications. If this is the case, you will need to either identify an alternative way to perform the action in the app, for example, use the Ribbon command instead of the keyboard command, or change the File Explorer shortcut key assignments.

In SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader Version 23.02 and later, you can modify the shortcut key assignment by doing the following:

  1. Open the SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader Control Panel.
  2. Open the "General" menu and select "Startup Preferences" (ALT + G, S).
  3. Change the "Shortcut key" value. You can choose between "None", "Control + Shift + S" or "Control + Alt + S". Note that the change effects the latest version release and sets all previous SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader versions present on the system to have no shortcut.

If you are using an earlier version of SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader or you need to change the Remote Support shortcut key, you must manually locate and modify the assigned hotkey to all shortcuts.

By default, you will find SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader shortcuts on the desktop and in the Start menu. The Remote Support shortcut is only present in the Start menu.

To manually modify the desktop shortcut:

  1. Locate the shortcut on the desktop.
  2. Press ALT + ENTER (or open the context menu and choose "Properties"). The Shortcut Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Select the "Shortcut" page.
  4. TAB to the "Shortcut key" field and either press your new key combination or press DELETE to set the value to None.
  5. TAB to the "OK" button to confirm your changes and close the dialog box. Repeat for each SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader desktop shortcut.

To manually modify the Start menu shortcut:

  1. Open the Start menu and locate the SuperNova, Dolphin ScreenReader, or Remote Support shortcut you want to change.
  2. Open the context menu and select "Open file location". File Explorer opens with the shortcut selected.
  3. Press ALT + ENTER (or open the context menu and choose "Properties"). The Shortcut Properties dialog box opens.
  4. Select the "Shortcut" page.
  5. TAB to the "Shortcut key" field and either press your new key combination or press DELETE to set the value to None.
  6. TAB to the "OK" button to confirm your changes and close the dialog box. Repeat for each SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader Start menu shortcut.

Once complete, you must restart your computer for the new shortcut key assignments to take effect.

Tip: Where no shortcut key is assigned, one quick way to launch SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader is to use the Search box in the Start menu. For example, open the Start menu, type "23.02" (without the quotes) to find that specific edition of SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader, and then press ENTER to launch the product.
