Unable to Open PDFs Saved by Doc Reader in Microsoft Edge

Users have reported that PDFs originally saved using Doc Reader fail to open in Microsoft Edge, displaying the error message: "We can't open this file – something went wrong."

The issue appears to be specific to Microsoft Edge, as testing has confirmed that the same PDF files open successfully in alternative applications and browsers, including Adobe Acrobat Reader, Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Doc Reader.

This issue is currently being investigated by the development team, and Microsoft have been contacted regarding the error.

At present, there are two available workarounds.

The first workaround is to use an alternative method to open the PDFs. As Adobe Acrobat Reader, Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Doc Reader do not exhibit the same issue, they can be used instead of Microsoft Edge.

The second workaround is to disable the New PDF Viewer in Microsoft Edge by following the steps below:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge
  2. In the address bar search "edge://flags"
  3. Search for PDF using the search bar at the top of the page
  4. Locate New PDF Viewer
  5. Change the setting from Default to Disabled
  6. Restart Edge when prompted to apply the change

Once Edge has restarted, PDFs should open without issue.
