Using VoiceView Gestures for EasyReader Amazon

Useful VoiceView Gestures to use with your Amazon device and EasyReader

NOTE: This article applies to those running EasyReader on an Amazon device such as Kindle tablet with the devices native VoiceView Screen Reader.

VoiceView is controlled entirely by one finger. The VoiceView screen reader lets you use gestures to navigate your Fire tablet (FireOS 5 and higher) and interact with content with speech output.

EasyReader has been designed to accommodate VoiceView Gestures and all should apply to the EasyReader Application.

How do I turn it on?

  1. Press the power button located next to the USB power port.
  2. Wait for the device to load the language selection screen.
  3. Triple press the power button, and wait for VoiceView to start.

Or additionally, navigate to your device Settings> Accessibility> VoiceView Screen Reader> Turn ON VoiceView

Or press power button consecutively 3 times in a row

Explore and speak items on the screen

To explore the screen, drag your finger over it. VoiceView speaks the name of each item you touch. You can also use VoiceView gestures to explore the screen in order, from top to bottom and left to right.

Take action on an item

Use VoiceView gestures to perform actions on an item.

Action Gesture
Select an item Single-finger tap
Activate the selected item Single-finger double tap
Drag a slider Tap the slider to select it, then swipe up or down with one finger; or double-tap and hold the slider then drag the slider
Start or stop the current action (for example, play or pause a book) Two-finger double-tap

Gestures within EasyReader Reader

Use VoiceView gestures to perform various gestures within EasyReader's Reader (when you have a book open).

Action Gesture
Go Back Single-finger swipe down and left in a single motion. You can also use the Back button near the bottom left of the screen in the soft key bar.
Read all from selected item Two-finger swipe down
Read all from first item Two-finger swipe up
Navigate while continuously reading Single-finger swipe up or down. Swipe multiple times to jump multiple items. Use a 2-finger swipe left or right to jump by element.
Select, Copy & Paste Text Three-finger double tap and hold to start text selection on current item. Use linear or granular navigation to move to the other end of your selection. Use a 3-finger double tap and hold again to the end of the selection. Use a 4-finger double tap and hold to paste. Double tap and hold by briefly touching the screen, lift your fingers, then immediately touch the screen again and hold your fingers for about 1 second.
Go to the first item on screen Four-finger single tap on upper part of screen
Go to the last item on screen Four-finger single tap on lower part of screen
