Windows 10 explorer Crash with SuperNova/Dolphin ScreenReader

Resolving Windows key, Taskbar and Explorer.exe errors after restart

Issue Overview:
Users running SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader on Windows 10 may encounter problems after restarting their system. Specifically:

  • The Windows key, taskbar, and system settings may become inaccessible.

  • An error message may appear stating: “explorer.exe – class not recognized.”

  • These issues are linked to an Explorer crash that occurs during startup.

Cause:
This behavior is triggered by a conflict between Windows Explorer and the speech and braille startup options within SuperNova/Dolphin ScreenReader version 24.05 and prior with Windows 10

Resolution:
To resolve the issue please update to SuperNova version 24.06 and onwards.

Alternative workarounds:

  1. Open SuperNova/Dolphin ScreenReader.

  2. Navigate to General > Startup Options.

  3. Turn off Speech and Braille at startup.

Alternative Fix (Enterprise Environments) For enterprise deployments, administrators can disable speech and braille startup through the Enterprise Configuration settings, ensuring the change is applied consistently across multiple devices.
