How to transfer Guide Connect users email settings and address book to another computer

This article will list the steps required to transfer both a Guide Connect users email configuration and address book and contacts to another machine.

How to transfer end users Address book to a new machine running Guide Connect

  1. Close Guide Connect on the machine with the address book you wish to copy. You can do this by going to Exit > Return to windows.
  2. Open the run dialogue with WINDOWS + R
  3. Type %appdata% and select ENTER
  4. Open the folders Dolphin > GuideConnect
  5. Copy the Contacts folder onto removable media/download for transfer to the new machine running Guide Connect.
  6. On the second machine close Guide Connect by going to Exit > return to windows
  7. Repeat Steps 2-4
  8. Paste the contacts folder into the same directory as the old computer and overwrite the contacts folder already in the new computer by default.
  9. Boot up Guide Connect with CONTROL + SHIFT + C or use the icon on the desktop and then open Address book to check if the transfer has been successful.

How to transfer end users Email settings and configuration to a new machine running Guide Connect.

  1. Close Guide Connect on the machine with the address book you wish to copy. You can do this by going to Exit > Return to windows.
  2. Open the run dialogue with WINDOWS + R
  3. Type %appdata% and select ENTER
  4. Open the folders Dolphin > GuideConnect
  5. Now in the Guide Connect folder we can copy the email files required onto removable media/download for transfer to the new machine running Guide Connect. Depending on the type of email the end user is running you will have to copy different files.

    POP3 – if the end user is running with a POP3 email then you will have to copy over the Mail folder onto the new machine and the EmailSettings.db file

    IMAP – if the end user is running with a IMAP email then you will have to copy over just the EmailSettings.db file
  6. On the second machine close Guide Connect by going to Exit > return to windows
  7. Repeat Steps 2-4
  8. Paste the email files into the same directory as the old computer and overwrite the email files already in the new computer by default.
  9. Boot up Guide Connect with CONTROL + SHIFT + C or use the icon on the desktop and then open the emails module to check if the transfer has been successful.

    Note: before any data transfer it is important to make a backup to ensure that if any issues occur during the transfer to the new machine end user’s data is not lost.
