Can I use SuperNova or Dolphin ScreenReader with Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides?

SuperNova and Dolphin ScreenReader require that you enable the accessibility support in Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides to function

Enabling the accessibility features

Screen Reader support

  • Press CONTROL + ALT + Z (or access via the Accessibility options in Tools menu ALT + T, C).

Braille support

  • Press ALT + T to open Tools menu.
  • Press C to open the Accessibility options

Braille Mode improves screen reading even without a Braille display attached.

The accessibility settings are saved to the Google Account.

There is an announcement when you enter Google Docs to let you know if Screen Reader mode is enabled or not.

Getting Started with Google Docs

  • Navigate to Google Docs (https://docs.google.com/)
  • Press LEFT CONTROL + 4 to toggle the Dolphin Cursor off.
  • TAB until you hear the announcement "List box blank", then press the ENTER key.
  • Now rename the new document by pressing ALT + F, R.
  • Type a name for the document and press ENTER.
  • Now create your document (the document will be automatically saved as it is updated).
  • When finished you can print the document with CONTROL + P, or close the document with CONTROL + F4.

SuperNova Shortcut Keys

DOLPHIN KEY + 6, to show a list of controls.

NUM PAD 4, to announce font attributes.

Google Shortcut Keys

ALT + F, N to create a new doc

CTRL+ O to Open a doc.

CTRL + F4 to Close doc.

CTRL + / to access list of shortcuts.

ALT + SHIFT + H to access help

Tips with SuperNova

  • We recommend the use of Mozilla Firefox browser due to the improved accessibility support.
  • Toggle the Dolphin Cursor off with LEFT CONTROL + 4 once Google Docs has loaded and then remember to toggle this back on once you have finished using Google Docs.
  • Use the Item Finder list of Controls (DOLPHIN KEY + 6) for quick easy access to the toolbar buttons.
