If you install SuperNova on a Windows ARM-based device, such as a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 with a Snapdragon ARM64 CPU, you may encounter the following error message upon startup: "Magnification Engine Failed to Start. Code 393324"
This error occurs because SuperNova is not currently compatible with Windows ARM devices. Why does this happen?
ARM-based processors use a different instruction set than traditional Intel or AMD x86/x64 processors. Windows on ARM devices can run x86/x64 applications through an emulation layer, but this emulation has limitations, especially for applications that interact deeply with the operating system, such as assistive technology tools like SuperNova.
SuperNova requires direct access to system-level components, such as the Windows Desktop Window Manager, to provide magnification and screen reading functionality. The current version of SuperNova is compiled for x86/x64 processors and cannot properly interface with the ARM-native components of Windows, resulting in this error message.
What can I do?
Unfortunately, there is no workaround to make the current version of SuperNova function on Windows ARM devices. To use SuperNova, you will need a device with an Intel or AMD x86/x64 processor.
Future compatibility
Dolphin is aware of the growing market for ARM-based Windows devices and is exploring options for future ARM compatibility. However, as of now, SuperNova is not supported on Windows ARM platforms.
Recommended action
If you require SuperNova's functionality, we recommend using a Windows device with an Intel or AMD x86/x64 processor. These devices are compatible with SuperNova and will provide the best experience for users who rely on magnification and screen reading technology.
