The Vocalizer speech synthesiser is not detected in SuperNova/Dolphin ScreenReader

Vocalizer requires a sound device to be present on the system for it to be detected and for it to function

If you install SuperNova / Dolphin ScreenReader on a device that does not have speakers or headphones connected, or if you install to a virtual machine without a virtual sound device configured and active then the Nuance Vocalizer synthesisers will not be detected.

To resolve this issue configure a sound device and then enable the Vocalizer driver in Synthesiser Access Manager (SAM).

To do this you need to:

  1. Open the Dolphin product control panel (LEFT CONTROL + SPACE BAR).
  2. Open the General menu (ALT + G).
  3. Open Advanced Options (A).
  4. Open SAM Setup (S).
  5. In the SAM Configuration window that appears select the checkboxes next to the Vocalizer synthesisers you want to enable.
  6. When finished click close.

Now select the synthesiser in your Dolphin Product, to do this:

  1. Open the Dolphin product control panel (LEFT CONTROL + SPACE BAR).
  2. Open the Speech menu (ALT + S).
  3. Open Voice Preferences (P).
  4. Choose the Synthesiser Configuration property sheet (CONTROL + TAB).
  5. Open Select Synthesiser (Y).
  6. Choose the preferred voice and then OK the dialog.
